Another splendid commission completed by the suuuperbly talented :iconsolfei: !!  So many thanks to you for this one! :D  This one featured two grand rivals in the ring, and in their respective fandoms.  In the red corner, it's the statuesque and attractive Head Waitress, Shidou Hikari!  Opposing her in the Blue Corner is "Kyouju," Sonohara Kagami.  One's a Star Wars fan while the other's devoted to Star Trek.  Their professions and passions collide in another edition of the Boxing Glove's Bakery & Café's Super Saturday Night of sanctioned boxing matches!

Which side will reign this night?  We'll find out....

----------------------

It’s a rivalry that dates back more than three decades.  Fans have staked their positions on why their favourite pop-culture subject is superior to the other competing one, re-enacting the lore, discussing characters and stories endlessly, and jamming convention halls year after year to see their favourite actors or actresses.  Let’s not forget the many metric tons of merchandise accumulated each year!

Now this rivalry finds its way into the boxing ring, specifically here at the Boxing Glove Bakery & Café during one of the monthly Super Saturday Live Stream PPV’s.  In this main event, it’s the Head Waitress of the café, the statuesque Shidou Hikari – a devoted Star Wars fan – opposing the sturdy, strategic Star Trek boxing nerd Sonohara Kagami.

Both Hikari and Kagami are stiff jabbing, tactical boxers, and have tremendous respect for one another’s keen-eyed boxing skill and toughness.  With Hikari’s 5’10 height towering over Kagami’s 5’6.475, it almost looks like a Vader vs. Luke battle, or Gorn vs. Kirk from first glance.  The height difference is evident as they approached each other in the middle of the ring for the customary glove touch.

“May the Gloves be with you, Kagami-san, but not too much, as I will put you down this time.  I’ll even include a complimentary Cappuccino combo after the fight,” Hikari cheerfully said with gloves tapping Kagami’s purple leather with some competitive pep.

“Live long and clobber, Shidou-san, but not too much, given that logical calculations are with me and they’ll assist in my triumph,” Kagami replied with a hearty, competitive spirit.

Kagami returned Hikari’s glove tap with a stiff one of her own, followed by both nerd pugilists pressing bodies together in a final intense stare down.  This fight was on, and it wasn’t just for boxing supremacy this evening, but to defend one’s favoured fandom.  Of note was the fact that they were keeping their glasses on… had they perfected a sport version of the world’s only indestructible and sports safe NERD spectacles??

------------

Once the bell rang to begin round 1, the stiff chess match began.  Hikari and Kagami met very quickly in the middle of the ring, with the statuesque Head Waitress stiffly flicking her left jab out to establish its dominance against the shorter Kagami.  Her jab and jab-cross combinations were not only stiff, well-placed ones, but they were also quick and accurate, much like her idol’s – a certain eccentric former champion turned boxing trainer.

For Kagami, her Kame guard tactic assisted in weathering the initial storm of jabs that showered her as she followed along with the taller redhead. She was able to slip in a few strong counter jabs and an effective overhand left- right body combination when she could answer back.  Both she and Hikari scored with a couple strong hooks that snapped their respective heads to the side to a loud “Oooh!” from the many patrons packing the café. With all that, neither could gain an early advantage in this first round of action.

A strong flurry of punch-counter punching pushed Both girls toward the ropes where they tied each other up tightly, first with Kagami leaning heavily against the taller Hikari’s body, pressing the latter’s toned and shapely back against the ropes.  The patrons got quite the pleasing view until Hikari rolled Kagami over against those same ropes until the referee got them separated so the grappling could stop and the fighting resume.

Hikari worked her jab once again against the purple haired pugilist’s guard and weaving head, scoring a couple stiff shots.  Those were answered with a couple of equally stiff left hook-right body hooks following well-executed feints that led to a well-timed cross-counter in the middle of the ring to end the round.

“An… excellent round, Kagami-san.  I’ll have to double my efforts to prevent this from going all 12 rounds,” Hikari complimented her opposition with a strong shoulder tap.

Tapping Hikari’s shoulder in return, Kagami reciprocates the praise.

“12 rounds or 6, it doesn’t matter, Hikari-san.  All good things must come to an end, as a wise antagonist once said.  An excellent battle is coming, and I won’t let your height intimidate me,”

Off to their corners they went to be tended to and await the 2nd round.  Each girl is fully confident, but would either one be able to knock the other down for a full 10, or will it be up to the judges to decide?

-- ------------

What followed was a double dose of back and forth between The Professor and the Head Waitress.  Rounds 2 and 3 favoured the shorter Kagami as she found ways to avoid the worst snapping jabs of the taller Head Waitress.  While Hikari did snap Kagami’s visage several times with her red leather, it was Kagami’s overhand that caught the redhead as many times and more in spite of Hikari’s best attempts at evading or parrying Purple-hair’s shots.

Round 3 ended with a brilliant overhand feint that got Hikari to tighten her defense upstairs long enough for Kagami to pull her right back as her left rocketed out a stern shot straight against the waitress’ hard abdominals. The shot was hard enough to partially bend the taller girl over, but she had the presence of mind in those dying seconds to tie up Kagami in a clinch that neutralized any further offense.

Round’s 4 and 5 turned things around in favour of the Redheaded Head Waitress.  Smarting from the body shot to end round 3, Hikari made better use of her reach advantage against the cunning Professor.  Leading with a stiff flicker jab that kept Kagami busy, Hikari pounded down her opposition’s guard, effectively feinting the left and catching Kagami more often with a right hook-left jab-body upper that dropped the Professor’s starch a few times.

A short clinch in the middle of the ring gave Kagami a breather, but right after the breakup, Hikari’s wickedly quick 1-2 battered through those golden gloves to give Kagami’s eyes a good whacking.  Moments later, Kagami answered back by crouching under a hook attempt and thrusting herself in to hammer the ribs and throttle a stiff right into Hikari’s face just under the eyes.

That staggered the statuesque redhead back close to the corner, which prompted Kagami to fly in to deliver some decisive offense to take control of the bout… or so she thought.  Hikari still had presence of mind to shift her weight onto her right foot to pivot out of an incoming blow’s trajectory, using her right glove to give Kagami an assist in meeting the corner.

Ah – Yabai…wrong equation... Kagami’s impeccable calculations had failed her this time.

Thus, instead of Hikari taking her lumps of sugar in her coffee, it was she herself that delivered a hard barrage to the now defensive Professor. Kagami covered up as best as she could, but she couldn’t escape a stiff pair of hooks that hammered her face from both sides with a fling of sweat and a slight spray of red coming from the right brow.

Hikari kept her punishment up, slipping a few body shots through Kagami’s defenses, but before the bell rand to end round 5, her own head snapped from a well timed counter hook from the cornered Kagami.  The two pugilistic rivals ended the round in each other’s arms, pressed against the corner.

Saying nothing to each other, they nodded in competitive praise, but Kagami knew that at this point, the statuesque Head Waitress had gained the advantage.

------------

On, the back and forth went.  Kagami was able to catch Hikari with a surprise left cross that stunned the gorgeous redhead in round 7.  That allowed her to drive her swimsuit-clad opponent to the ropes to return the thumping she’d received earlier in the bout.  Amid defense and counter punches, Kagami’s golden gloves thumped Hikari’s strong, toned body making Hikari clench her mouth guard as blows met her arms and abs.  Kagami’s right uppercut sliced through and snapped the waitress’ chin upward, leaving the head open to a stiff follow up left hook-right cross that impacted with a twist over Hikari’s left brow.

The spray of crimson was mixed with the sweat that came from the tall, gorgeous fighter, yet she did not go down from the onslaught. Instead, she was able to tie herself up with The Professor, leaning heavily body to body in a vigorous wrestling match along the ropes that gave the referee fits in trying to detach them and get the fighting back on.

This hard, bruising back and forth continued on, igniting the café patrons to building shaking levels… much like a clash between Trek and Wars conventions in the same building would.

By the final round, both fighting girls showed the bruising weariness of a highly competitive and physical fight.  Defensive and calculating as the girls were, their faces were well worn, bruised and cut.  The surprising thing that made this matchup so exciting is that neither one had been able to drop the other down to the canvas.  This fact kept the packed café’s patrons loud and on edge, wondering if one of them would falter.

In the final round, Kagami and Hikari did their level best to trounce the other down to secure an all-important victory.  Strategy was almost secondary to finding out who could outlast the other… the Jedi or the Klingon – er, the Professor or the Head Waitress, that is.

In the dying seconds of the round, Kagami was able to mildly stun Hikari long enough to get a couple good shots through her sturdy guard, looking to finally put her down on the canvas.  Between the offensive attempt, people ringside could hear words from the two…

“I… have HAD… Enough of—“ *

As Kagami thrust her right to deliver a decisive blow, her face got hammered with a longer reaching red glove.

“—YOUUUU!” Hikari finished her Trek-fan rival’s sentence.

What finished everything was the bell for round 12 ringing amid the roars of an appreciative crowd.  The two fandom rivals leaned against each other for a brief moment as their respective corner girls came to collect them for the wait at hand – the judges ruling.

“…Shatner, Trek III, the fight scene with Kruge,” Hikari huffed through some heavy breaths.

“Well… You know your Trek,” Kagami returned in compliment.

“Study my opposition, I do.  As do you, Kagami-san.  C-Compliments to your side,” Hikari replied.

“Saa, our least favourite time in fighting awaits.  Leaving things to other people… With a certain point of view,” Kagami mouthed as she pushed off of the tall Head Waitress.  She gave her a congratulatory pat on the back, including one on her firm behind as she left for her corner.

Hikari gave a cute yelp and managed to do the same with her longer reach that generated a similar sound from The Professor.  Those were the signs of respect… and playful jabbing among sci-fi fans.

------------

Minutes passed before Konami Manaka entered the ring with the official decision.  Before she could begin the proceedings, a voice from the barista bar cut through the crowd noise.  That voice raised her hand above her 5’9 head,

“Who let de Ewok in the ring?? You ‘ave to be this tall to step in there!”

Manaka’s face turned a strawberry jam red, staring bread knives in Annette Giroux’s direction.

“WHO’S THE 16-BIT COFFEE CUP WHO SAID THAT? GRRRR!!! 16-bit Meanie!!!”

Annette laughed uncontrollably, slamming her hand on the bar.

“I got ‘er all red again.  HOOOHOHOHOHO!!  Dats worth a cappuccino on me, p’tit console!”

Manaka frowned then recomposed herself for the announcement.

“Ahem – Eeeto.  Let’s give our awesome Hikari-boss and her opposition Sonohara-san a huge hand for their boss-battle boxing match!”

The crowd roared in agreement in thanks to the two who put on another great, competitive fight at the best place to be on Saturday night.

“Now, with the judges decision in.  Remember, scoring is done by official rules, but here we score rounds won with Chocolate Lava muffins this week!  We have scores of 7 muffins to 5, 6 muffins to 6, and the final judge scored the bout 7 muffins to 5.  We have a split decision, and a close one for… the Red Corner, our Head Waitress, SHIDOUUUUU HI-KA-RIIIII BOSS!!!”

Kagami sighed, but didn’t show any disappointment on her face. Difficult as it was to accept a narrow defeat.  Because of whom she fought though, she was quite able to go over and warmly embrace a victorious Shidou Hikari.

“Well fought, Hikari-san.  I’ll fight the urge to be disappointed and feel good about giving you the kind of test that made you fight with all your force,”

Hikari returned the embrace tightly, and to Kagami’s surprise and without protest, she gave her a kiss as part of her thanks for a fantastically competitive match.

“You are an incredible, challenging opposition, Sonohara Kagami.  Without a doubt, you fight like one of your Klingons, but with intelligence and toughness,”

“S-Sou?  Well, it’s not like it’ll be our last match together.  I’ll want to see you in this ring again and again, of course.  Not that it’s revenge, but comeuppance is a dish that’s best served cold, but a hot Café Mocha on the side’s not bad,”

Kagami raised Hikari’s hand for the roaring crowd.

“My goodness, how many times would you like us to fight each other?  Not that I’d mind that challenge..,” Hikari replied.

“Well, except for a few…. Maa, doesn’t everyone like a sequel?”  Kagami grinned.

“Indeed!  Now let us get cleaned up, so I can get you a drink,” Hikari added, exiting the ring together with Kagami.  She waved to her hometown crowd as they cheered on herself and The Professor.

For sure, there’ll be further meetings between the two.  How many will there be? Well…. How many sequels are there between the Star Wars and Star Trek franchises?

Until next time, that’s it from the Boxing Glove Bakery & Café’s Super Saturday Fight Night!
