Cool, shapely and desirable figure that all the guys in her high school can't take their eyes off of? Check.
Sits in the very back row right by the window in her class? Check that.
Does well in P.E., Science, History and Geography.... but not Math?? Yup.
Leader of Tousa High School's "Kaga Kōkū bokan" girl gang? Check that, too.
Meet Kanbaru. Just.... Kanbaru. Born from a Korean mother who gave her a Korean name, Yi Hyeon, and a Japanese father who runs a multi-disciplinary martial arts dojo in the heart of Osaka's Umeda ward, Kanbaru lives with her parents as an only child on Osaka's outskirts, by Izumisano station in a reasonably upscale home. She has a Japanese name, though only her parents and instructors know it. Ever since the end of middle school however, she's preferred to be known only by her family name, Kanbaru. (When visiting Korea, she'll use her given Korean name when addressed by family on her mother's side)
Her usual demeanour is that of a reasonably diligent student in most subjects, except for the perpetually hated one of math among her and her friends, with high achievement in physical education given the time she spends at her father's martial arts dojo whenever she can get time to get there and help out with classes and take some in, herself. She likes the usual girl things, such as slice of life and romance anime/manga (and surprisingly super-robot anime of the 70's! That really gets her and her father pumped up when they watch shows such as UFO Robo Grendizer, Mazinger Z and Kagaku Ninja-tai Gatchaman!), shopping for new fashions and spending time with her girlfriends at the coffee shops by Izumisano station and taking in the cafes around the main Namba station district.

But then there's the OTHER side of her. One her father's okay with because he's a law & order kind of guy who values defending one's honour, and one that drives the high school administration crazy. Stemming from her middle school years when she and her friends were accosted for lunch money by a gang of tough girls from an inner city high school in Chuo-ku and were roughed up pretty badly. Even the gang leader's boyfriend got into the act, taking a few hard shots on the defiant Kanbaru after she got in the way of the boy's manhandling of her best friend.
After that, she grew a colder side and intensely spent time in her father's dojo, bringing along some of her closest friends who would be with her all through high school. She was going to get even with that girl gang, and that cowardly boyfriend no matter what it took, as well as be a force that would defend her school's turf and take out the punk trash of other high schools. From French Savate, to Thai kickboxing, Judo, Chinese Wu-shu, Karate and Korean Taekwondo, Kanbaru absorbed as much as her body could. Once in high school, her body was a hard toned, strong figure that even the seniors admired, and the guys lusted after. Snapping a wooden bench with her hands and feet would deter most from trying to take advantage of her or her friends in rather quick fashion, though.
She got even with that girl gang soon enough, and in quick fashion in a brawl between 5-member girl gangs and that one boyfriend. She didn't stop hammering the opposing leader until her face was a terrible, bloody mess; something that really aroused her wild side. Her gang became both feared and respected across Osaka's high school landscape, keeping rival girl gangs from accosting her school's population, and being called on as troubleshooters by other schools. The school administration tolerates her actions since her grades are good and she keeps trouble away from the student body, taking some good lumps of her own in the process. Daddy's influential in the neighbourhood and approves of his daughter's taking care of business though mother wishes she'd just settle down and go on dates like regular girls. Does she get things done perfectly every time? Not always. There's always someone stronger than her that she butts heads with, and needs to go back to the drawing board to get even with her, and sometimes him after getting patched up, sometimes requiring a hospital visit. But she's always getting back in there with her gang to make sure the trouble they've been tasked with ridding a school of is in fact taken care of, in bloody fashion or not. "Customer satisfaction," is job #1 for her and the Kaga Kōkū bōkan.

Plenty of guys tried to date her, but she found most of them beta-male types whom all had fantasies based on JAV's hidden under their beds, and far less physically gifted than her. After spending time with an athletic transfer student from Washington State, she developed a preference for dating and doing it with gaijin who can match her physical prowess. She's not averse to having a little fun with girls if they're strong opponents and on her good side.
Just call her Kanbaru. And don't disparage her Korean heritage, or you'll suffer a similar beatdown that rivals Lucy Liu's from a certain Tarantino movie.... *ahem* Now she's heard of a tough high school girl going by the name of Rin. She's sure she'll be crossing paths with her at some point; hopefully in competitive combat, and not for an all-out war. Till then, the grades are kept up, and she's certain to take over daddy's business after she's done dealing justice and solving problems in high school. Now if only she could get her Math grades up....
